So this is finally my first post to the wonderful life journal. Since I'm a notoriously lazy writer, I can't promise anything concerning my posting frequency. Anyhow... those have been enough excuses for now.
Yesterday, I performed my diplomatic duties at a classical concert and the consul's place. Eight young and talented artists were playing a mix of newer pieces on contrabasses (and of course, I forgot the names of the artists--don't get me wrong, they were really good!). After the concert, Murat (my colleague) and I tried to find the consul's residence in LA, which was quite a task. I was trying to read the tiny map while giving instructions to Murat (and those were supposed to make sense...). For some reason we managed to find our way through Hollywood without getting completely lost, although we were applying the "we'll drive where all the other cars go"-principle.
At the reception, we enjoyed food and interesting conversations with various semi-important persons from LA (definition: you can recognize a semi-important person by counting the number of business cards distributed per minute and square foot, if the number is above five, you must be in a diplomatic environment). Since we had no business cards on us (therefore, we qualify as servants rather than semi-important persons, we spent the night discussing politics (mostly the Israel-Lebanon conflict).
Oh and I almost forgot the air conditioner. I'm sitting here in my room, wondering why my otherwise very amusing landlord with the parrot (she, Paradise, talks!)does not switch the a/c on. 100 degrees Fahrenheit are apparently not a reason enough.
