The object

It winked into my peripheral vision and caught my full attention as it came down to earth
it's speed soft and steady, a sight only caused by terminal velocity viewed at great distance
like a firework launched from the clouds. It streamed on a banner of flames
glowing and flickering until it split from the heat and friction
there I had witnessed the dying breath of something eternal
I gazed at the embers still hurtling and worried what would happen where they landed
in just a matter of seconds the whole ordeal had come and gone
what was left is no more
no more
no more after how long
the near eternity of it's life, if you could call it that, had finally ended
it still exists, in the air and what solid that is left will finally settle to the ground and nobody will know
I know and I feel pressure on my chest, I saw how quickly it had become dust
did i deserve to be present at it's ending, a mere mortal stuck in this place
this great being, on a timeless journey
where did it begin
could it have been there when all this became real
something so aged it had been part of creation itself
lost among the ether of our reality, drifting from the center to possibly reach the edge
yet here in the darkness, a night filled with the stench of humanity and the sky blurred with light
I saw it's journey come to a close
