Poker - From Online Grinder to WSOP Wannabe

May 19, 2008 23:16

My 1st post of my poker career birth was on May 11th if your intrested.  This would be part 7 of my story.

So as a quick catch up, I've been grinding out small multis and sng's for a couple years with reasonable success.  I've got a poker partner (t_dawgonu) to split some of my winnings, and up to that point I have been the big winner between the two of us, but my partner on his on won a seat to the "Big Show, the 2006 WSOP Main Event!!".  So, of course as you might expect I'm quite jealous, but still very happy for my buddy and the Series is coming fast. I tried a couple satelites with no success and I was losing hope. I did manage to win a seat to a $215 satelite for a WSOP seat.  I couldn't really afford to buyin to many more satelites so I had to make that one count.  It was a Saturday evening and I pretty much had the night to myself.  I don't have too many details but there were 125 players and they paid 2 seats.  The one theing I do remember was I stayed up all night and woke up my wife (And probably my neighbors, lol) and my poker buddy, because I WON!!!! Yee Hawwwww!!!!  I couldn't belive we both won seats to the Big Dance.  This was a dream that many people never get fulfilled. I was so overwhelmed, but at the same time confident I could take care of business when I get there. The other good thing about both of us winning seats is we could split any winnings.  Luckily, at the time we also were forced to play our seats, unlike today where legally the websites aren't allowed to buyin for you anymore, so you can't chicken out and take the $10K.  Making it the biggest WSOP Main Event in history to date!! (9000 players).

Another great confidence builder was, just before we were about to leave for the event I place 3rd place out of 408 players for over $3K!! But again I had to split with my poker partner.  I was realy wondering if this splits deal was such a good idea.  That was the 2nd big cash I've had that I had to split, but with so much riding on the WSOP Main Event, I still thought it was smart to double my odds of cashing. I would be happy if just one of us cashes for $12K and I could get $6K.

July 30th was our big day.  Party Poker let us request our starting day and I belive we both chose the 3rd day out of 4.  Can you believe that!!  They had to break down the starting entries into 4 different days!! I will delve more into the whole trip on the next post.  To be continued........

The last couple days haven't been all that great for me.  I've been a bit distracted with the baby, work, etc. I lost a few coin flips and shoved a bit loose a couple times. It really wasn't optimal conditions and no card help.  I really didn't lose alot, but only cashed 7/20 and was getting burned the times I did cash.  I stay at home on Monday's with the baby so hopefully I get more time in tommorrow. Whether it will be quality time who knows? I'm still trying to put together a plan for my WSOP trip this year.  More on all that next post.  GL all.  Comments, questions, appreciated. Donkeyherder.

If you would like to check me out you can look me up on a few sites, pokerdb.com shows big tournament results. I've never had a single losing year.  I won a seat to the 2006 WSOP main event and cashed in the top 10% of the field of over 9000 players.  I've made 77 Final tables, including 11 1st's (50-1555 players). Most of the time you'll find me grinding out Sit-n-Gos.
