Because I've got nothing better to do
Since I have time in my hands right now, I started reminiscing on how I was several months ago, back when I was ignorant of yaoi/BL manga. I've known that some form of literature and art of this nature existed but I honestly did not expect it to be this widespread and with such a large and loyal fan base.
I've always been a broad minded person and I have never understood the fuss that other people make when they find out that a person is gay. I have a lot of gay friends and some are quite comfortable to actually smooch and make out (a bit) with their partners while I'm in front of them. I guess that's why I can relate to the female characters in BL manga who are cool with their friends being gay. Anyway.
Before, I was only aware of yaoi fanfiction. I came across the terms "seme" and "uke" long ago and stupidly read them as "seem" and "uke" as something that sounds like "yook" - and I know that's not even a word. Yes, I laugh at myself for being in this state of ignorance before. Well, they are now two words included in my constantly expanding vocabulary.
Being exposed to this genre has changed the way I look at UFC/MMA fighting. I can't help but be tickled at some of the positions the fighters get into during matches. Reminds of a different kind of fighting in yaoi manga. I read the manga Dame na Kurai ga Choudoii just a few days ago and one of the characters there developed the ability to pick out which was the seme and uke when he sees a couple. Am I reading about my future self? I'm sorry but I just can't help it. Once again, I laugh at myself for this.
One thing that I do wonder about when I read the sex scenes is how do they get themselves that wet? In one page, they're kissing and getting undressed. In the next page, they're soaking wet and making a lot of squelching noises. I guess, the mangaka leaves some things to the reader's imagination, right. Or there were behind the scenes lubricating action going on. I don't know.
