All You Need is Love.
The Mario Kart Love Song was blasting. And Jae Bum didn’t like it. Sure, he loved playing Mario when he was a little kid, but he didn’t want to hear a song about it on repeat, the words blending into one as he listened. Jay was tempted to rip the headphones out of the girl’s ear. He was beyond afraid that he was going to be stuck next to her for the rest of the plane ride and all she would do was listen to the song.
Instead of turning it off like Jay wanted so badly, the dark girl took one headphone out of ear and moved in front of Jay face. “Want to listen?” she asked in English.
Jay gave her a strange look. It was always odd for him to hear someone speak English accent free. “Sure,” Jay said, having absolutely nothing else to do, “but another song, please.” He grabbed the headphone and placed it in his ear.
The girl laughed. “All right, I was kind of getting sick of it. But the boy has such a beautiful voice, don’t you think? I love Korean Americans.” She smiled.
Jay just nodded, not sure how to respond. To be honest, he was just glad that someone out there still loved Korean Americans, even if it wasn’t him.
Seconds later, The Beatles were playing. This really wasn’t Jay’s kind of music either, but he always had a respect for The Beatles, as everyone should.
The two just sat there, never saying a word to each other. The only thing that connected them was music from so far in the past.
“All you need is love.”
“All you need is love.” This time, it was the girl singing along. Her demeanor seemed to scream that she felt the words she was singing. For some reason, the girl believed that despite all of the other amazing things that littered the world, love was all you needed.
“All you need is love.” And this time, it was Jay singing, simply because he wanted to believe it. The boy had almost nothing left and he had a lot less love than he had the week before, but as he looked at the girl next to him, he remembered that there would always some people that would love him.
“Love, love is all you need.”
