Title; Anytime
Fandom/Pairing; Choi Minho/Lee Donghae frienship-or you can take it as more if you wish.
Rating; G
Summary; It's Minho's birthday, and he's still in Vancouver, instead of in Korea celebrating with SHINee and his other friends, like his Donghae-hyung.
Author's Note; Written for Minho's 18th birthday! I know that he and Donghae are close, and I learned that after watching
this. You know, since he's in Canada and all, I bet SHINee and his other hyungs miss him a bunch, and I bet they miss him, too. And since I wanted to write something happy, I wrote this for Minho. I wrote it as a sweet hyung&dongsaeng piece, but if you want to read this with them as a couple, that's totally fine, too. I love Minho a lot-he's kind of like the older brother I always wish I had-so the fact that it's his birthday made my day so much better than it could have been. I'd bake him a cake, but I don't actually know him, haha. Happy birthday, Minho-oppa :]
He could feel it in his bones-he was eighteen now. Well, nineteen in Korea.
For some reason, he felt taller. Not that he needed to be any taller, especially since he exceeded the height of quite a few of his hyungs-which didn’t make Donghae very happy.
But the most important thing was that he felt more mature. He felt like more of an adult. Sure, he’d still enjoy playing games with Taemin and his other friends and group members, though.
Laughing to himself as he walked through the lobby of the hotel, he recalled when Onew, Key, Jonghyun, and Taemin had called him that morning. It’d been way too early, and Minho wasn’t sure if he’d actually said anything coherent.
It was hard to focus when your friends were screaming HAPPY BIRTHDAY into your ear over a phone at 2 in the morning and singing and saying all sorts of other things that were hard to decipher since all four of them were talking at once. He could remember Jonghyun started singing ‘Love Like Oxygen’ while the other three kept chanting ‘Happy Birthday’ over and over again. It was weird, and Minho almost had felt like he’d been having an out of body experience, but he loved his friends, and thinking about that call now made him smile. He hoped he’d said thank you before Onew realized what time it was in Vancouver and made the four of them say their goodbyes, but he couldn’t really remember. He’d call later-at a good time for all of them.
As he sat down in a chair with the crew around him while he waited for the rest of the cast to come from their rooms, the phone in his pocket started buzzing. Minho jumped a bit, and more people were looking at him. There was a group of girls not too far away who’d been looking at him for a while-probably fans. He threw them a soft smile before glancing down at his phone.
Once he saw the caller ID, he flipped it open and pressed the phone to his ear in a heartbeat.
“Hyung!” Minho’s face immediately lit up, and he tried to hide his excitement as people passing by started to stare. “Wait, hyung…what time is it in Korea?”
“Um…” the older boy hummed for a second, “around 2:30 AM. Why?”
Minho chuckled. “You could’ve called at a more convenient time for yourself, you know.”
“Well, I didn’t want to wake you up,” Donghae yawned. “Besides, Hyuk is snoring. He’s too loud.”
“Eunhyuk-hyung snores?”
“Apparently he does now. There must be something wrong with him. Or maybe he picked it up while I was in China.”
“Maybe,” Minho mused, playing with his shoelace. “But, hyung, you shouldn’t be losing sleep just to talk to me.”
“Hey, I can call you anytime I want, you got that? Anyway, it was my choice to wake myself up to call you. It’s an important day. But don’t get your hopes up about me calling at this time tomorrow, because that’s not going to happen.”
Minho laughed. “That’s okay. You should get some sleep.”
“Ah, ah, ah-not before I sing,” Donghae’s grin was audible. He took a deep breath, “Saengil chukha hamnida! Saengil chukha hamnida! Sarang ha neun Minho-yaaaaa…saengil chukha hamnida!”
Smiling so widely the girls who’d been staring before started squealing, Minho said, “Thanks, hyung.”
“Anytime. Happy Birthday, oh lovable dongsaeng of mine.”
“Hyung, saranghamnida,” he said more quietly so that the fans near wouldn’t go even more ballistic. The chances of them knowing how close he was with his Donghae-hyung were high. “Go back to sleep.”
“That I will. I just felt that this couldn’t wait. I had to make sure it was actually your birthday in…wherever you are.”
“Canada.”
“Right. Canada.”
“Sleep, hyung, sleep.”
“Yes, sleep…” Donghae started mumbling.
“Say hi to Eunhyuk-hyung for me?”
“Of course…” he could tell that Donghae was fading.
“And the other Super Junior hyungs?”
“Of course…”
“Hyung?”
“Yes?”
“You should hang up now.”
“Don’t have to tell me twice. Saranghae.”
“I know.”
They ended the call at the same time, and Minho put the phone away with a grin still stuck to his face. Having that call, along with the one from the rest of SHINee lingering in his head would help make his birthday that much better.
