Ok, so I have a good issue.
Basically, I have this job offer in Connecticut which seems to be a pretty good deal working on financial applications. The people working there make it seem like a really great place to work, I'd be roughly an hour outside NYC, and the work could actually be a bit interesting. Also the company definitely has staying power, and apparently has a lot of upward mobility.
Now there's this other job I got a call back for a second interview with. The job is right outside of Amherst, working on VR simulation, Computer Graphics stuff. I'm really into that kind of thing ever since I took a couple classes on computer graphics with a focus on games (Plug for my baby:
http://vircitystudios.com/windstorm/). The offer probably won't be nearly as amazing, however I get the impression the cost of living is cheaper (unless I'm reading these wrong:
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/snapshots/CS3602000.html http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/snapshots/PL0955990.htmland just for kicks:
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/snapshots/PL3674183.html). Also, the company is very young and very small, I can't say with certainty how long it will be around, however I would have more real world experience in graphics which can be parlayed into continuing in the graphics career possibly even the games industry (as tough an industry as that is).
So...do I take the big money and basically move away from everything and start completely over and work on something I won't mind working on? Or Do I stay basically in my comfort zone, dangerously close to staying there forever (if that's still a bad thing?), working on something I'd really get a kick out of doing (even if it were harder), for likely less money.
I don't know, I feel either way I could be passing a really big opportunity. I don't want to look back and say "I was too afraid to move away and start over", or say "I traded a shot at something really cool for money".
I know, poor me, I have it SOOOOOO rough. :-P
This also banks on me getting an offer from the second company, but I'm fairly confident in that regard. I just need some of the thoughts in my head written down and get some solid feedback on them.
