(no subject)

Admittedly, I only watched parts of the VP debates. But I was all ready to give Cheney hell for not answering the questions and going back to previous topics...then I saw Edwards do the same. Also managed to totally ignore the stipulation of "Do not mention your running mate by name" on one question...TWICE.

They both sucked it up, at least from what I saw. No matter who wins the election, do NOT kill the president. I don't want either of these guys running the office. Just a matter of opinion.

Been reading some of the philosophy of St. Augustine. Brief synopsis of what I've read so far:
-Because of Original Sin, we do not have free will (insofar as we cannot choose to do good, only evil)
-We are all doomed to hell save a select random pre-determined few.
-The Christian Church is the pathway to heaven
-People should want to do righteous things, and follow the soul not the body.
-If you are of the chosen and don't do the right thing, God will come and convert you anyways (with Saul/Paul and St. Augustine given as proof)

Notice any discrepancies? Better yet, if anyone has a better knowledge of St. Augustine's teachings and can clarify these discrepancies, that'd be even better.

And better say this for note: The book I'm reading is The Political and Social Ideas of St. Augustine, by Herbert A. Deane. So although he quotes and refers to Augustine's work, it's more of a compilation of ideas interpreted (but not criticized in anyway, good or bad) by this guy.
