What?!?

Nov 03, 2006 18:57

So, I had the TV on some news station just now, and they reported that the governmental auditing department that's dealing with the reconstruction with Iraq is being closed.  It was put in a bill late one night in a closed-door meeting.

The department dealt with frauds and abuse in the reconstruction of Iraq.  These auditors have already filed hundreds of reports of frauds and abuse in the reconstruction process, quite a few of those being against Halliburton and other billion dollars companies for poorly-managed construction projects.  Last week, these auditors published a report on thousands of missing U.S. weapons in Iraq.

9 out of 10 times, when an entity (whether business or governmental) fires an auditing firm, it is because that entity doesn't want the auditing firm to file a negative report.

Hmmm....  get rid of the only independent means of accountability for the reconstruction of Iraq?  One week before elections?  Really?!

I'm disgusted.

BTW, I'm a registered Republican.
