The reason I went to New Orleans was to attend K-Con, which is gathering of Sherrilyn Kenyon (www.dark-hunter.com) fans from all over the world. Although most of the folks I met were from the US, I did meet gals from Belfast, London and Canada.
Most of the Dark-Hunter stories take place in and around the French Quarter so a good portion of the weekend was spent seeing where the stories took place.
I should have written things down to remind me as I went so I might have left out a few of the fabulous things I did. Photo's will be posted later.
Thursday -
Great flight from Newark to New Orleans (I wont go into trying to find long term parking at Newark. I'm just happy that I was able to find my car when I got back)
Got to the hotel around 10:00 AM. They couldn't check me in, although I had told them I was coming in early and had an early-arrival confirmation. They also couldn't give me the role away bed I had asked for. There were supposed to be 5 of us in the room!
Found the Minion suite where the K-Con volunteers (yeah, it's that helium hand thing again) were gathered putting together the swag bags for the weekend. Although my shift wasn't supposed to start until 12:00 PM, since I was there I figured I would jump in anyway and they needed the help.
Sherri wondered in about an hour later and said Hi to us all. I showed her my
Squire bag that I made (using my new toy - the embroidery machine) and she got a photo of me holding it :-D
She truly amazes me.... with all the people she meets, she actually remembered my name and where we first met! That woman is amazing on multiple layers! :-D
Two of my roomies showed up (Jenna & Joe) and we met up with another gal from the bbs (LaShay). We walked down the street to have a late lunch at
Mulate's and filled up on oysters, crawfish and aligator.
Funny story about Mulate's, one of the waiters from there got recruited to play Nick Gautier at the Dark-Hunter party on Saturday Night.
Back to the hotel where we were FINALLY able to check in. Up to the room to dump our stuff and relax for a bit. Our last roomie (Marge) showed up and we stowed her stuff then got ready for dinner.

Why there were 5 of us in the room: I was supposed to room with Jenna & Marge - gals I met on the bbs. At the time we booked, Jenna wasn't sure if her boyfriend Joe could come or not, so we left open the 4th spot. Another gal, JW, was looking for a room so we said sure, join us. Turns out that Joe was able to come so I asked for a rollaway in the room.
Two weeks before the event I contacted everyone to confirm but never heard back from the last gal. I even check my mail before I left and nothing. By the time Thursday afternoon rolls around I found out that she decided to room with someone else. So we were back to 4 in the room - then it turns out that LaShay couldn't get in touch with her roomies. The phone number she had didn't work - so she wound up crashing with us. We had plenty of extra bedding and made her a pallet on the floor since we couldn't get the rollaway (gurmble).

Back down to the lobby where we met up with a few more folks and then treked out to
Acme Oyster House for dinner. Yay oysters!!! Raw and charbroied and a nice cup of gumbo.
After dinner we walked to
Cafe du Monde for beignets. I couldn't believe it, they don't serve TEA!!! So I had water with my beignets.
Since we were right across the street from Jackson Square, we decieded to go find the creepy Jesus statue on Pirates Alley and then a stroll down Bourbon Street. Since it was a Thursday night, it looked like most of the crowd was made up of middle aged couples. We stopped into a few shops and listed to lots of music. Finally back to the hotel and sleep.
