adventures in getting home

For those who have been out to my house, you know it's pretty much in a rural area.

marillian phoned me at work this afternoon around 4:30-5:00 PM telling me there was an accident on the road to my house, a car was tipped over and there were fire trucks everwhere. I thanked her for the info and said that "it would probably be all cleaned up by the time I got home."

I was going to the gym tonight so I figured I wouldn't be getting home until 7:30-8:00 PM. Went to the gym, worked out with the trainer, then headed home. Get to the light around the corner from my house, and it's all blocked off! From what I could see from the road as I was driving past, it looked like there was a poll bent in half and the transformer was sparking.

Okay, decision time. Do I turn around and head back through town and then up the back way (which would have been the smarter choice) or take the next road up (2 miles up the road) down towards the wildlife preserve and down through Roosevelt, then up the back roads.

Got down to the preserve and the access road is flooded out! Back tracked and decided to go pick up 195, head down to the next exit (Jackson) and then take the county round up to Roosevelt and then back roads home. A half hour later, I'm pulling into my driveway. Oh, and the entire neighborohood is black - the poll that was taken out, took out the power.

Here enters Mom's wisdom. Back in 1999 with the whole millenium hype going about, Mom put in a generator! I'm the only house on the street with power! THANK YOU MOMMY!! The last time I checked the tank was about half full, so I think I should be good until morning. Thankfully it's going to be somewhat warm night, so it doesn't have to run the heater, just electric and water.

gym, mom
