Had a lovely dinner with
baronan and
geminichild on Friday night. Since they were cooking out on the grill, I brought a really decadent chocolate/peanut butter pie for dessert. They got me to watch the new Dr. Who and we watched some of the extras from the new Serenity DVD that just came out.
I can’t believe how HOT & MUGGY it was on Saturday! Just a few days earlier, I was pulling boots, sweater and wool skirt out of the closet. I had put on jeans & t-shirt to run errands and wishing I had on a bathing suit by the time I got back to the house!!!
Got home, cooled down (thankfully the weather had too) and changed into a pretty dress to hit
The Cosmopolitan Club in New Hope, PA and see Maureen McGovern. I was very happy my friend Sue could come along since I really hadn’t wanted to go alone. Maureen has a fabulous voice and did a very lovely tribute to the Gershwin Bros and their contemporaries. She did a wonderful Ella Fitzgerald number, even doing the ‘scat’ thing. It’s a nice little intimate club, and we had a table right next to the stage. The crowd was a mix of couples, singles, gays, straights and two tranys. (I think the one gal/guy was new to the dress thing since she had forgotten to check the back of her dress to make sure it wasn’t stuck into the pantyhose - which it was. Sue & I both caught it at the same time and quietly whispered it to her so she could fix it.) I would highly recommend the place and would like to go back to see some of their other shows. For me it was only a 45 minute drive from home.
Sunday was a TOAD mini outing to the New York Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo. I went with
fencerm2,
caitlindancer and Edmund, unfortunately,
firebow &
little_rowan couldn’t make it.
:-{ It was both Cathy & my first time to this faire. It’s nicer than the NJ Faire, but not as nice as the Maryland Faire. We went in mundy’s and had a fabulous time people watching and (blush) a lot of snarking went on. Not too much eye candy this time around, although I’m not sure if it was that they guys weren’t there, or I’m getting too old to see it.
We only caught two shows; a fire breathing act and the jousting. I would have liked to see more of the jousting, but we didn’t have a good viewing spot since we got to the area a little late. I bought a really cute pair of silver earrings that look like toads. :-} Mostly we just window shopped due to the prices.
I also got to visit with Emeline and hold little mister Gabriel Adventure for the first time! He’s still very tan (from the heat lamps at the hospital) and very very cute. Of course, only being a month old, he’s not too much fun yet ;-} but so nice to cuddle with :-}
