Britney Spears has given birth to a second son before her first one is a year old. I wish her joy, but having read an article in yesterday's Independent about the dangers of having children in quick succession (ie. less than eighteen months apart), I think she and her husband should take a break now. Maybe they could install a television in their bedroom?
Mind you - scientists are paid to do this sort of research? My mother, being a headteacher of a Catholic school, could have told them that. There are a couple of families she knows that have, say, five children all under eight years old, and every single one of those children will have something wrong with them - a hearing problem or learning difficulties or diabetes or severe allergies or something.
Next, scientists will be telling us that it's important to talk to our children, or that it's dangerous to pick up pokers by the red end, or that children born to poor crack-smoking teenagers might not do well in school. Oh wait...
