Authors are invited to submit their work for the 2014 annual Donald Strachey Mysteries fanzine, to debut at MediaWest Con (Memorial Day Weekend in Lansing, Michigan). The zine will also be available for mail order immediately following the convention.
StoryCandy Press is once again publishing a zine and, for the first time, is issuing a fandom-wide call for submissions. Authors are invited to submit their stories for review beginning now through Friday, April 11, 2014.
Here's how it works:
1. Let us know you’re planning to submit a story by Friday, February 14, 2014 (yes, Valentine’s Day, in the spirit of romance!). You don’t have to submit anything by this date - just let us know you plan to participate. Contact candy_a@earthlink.net.
2. All files must be submitted electronically to storyfan1@gmail.com and candy_a@earthlink.net. Only Word files will be accepted (please save with a .doc extension).
3. Please follow these formatting rules:
a. Text should be single-spaced (please do not put a space between each paragraph - that works great online but not for zine layouts!)
b. Use Times New Roman font
c. Use 1" margins
d. Use .5" paragraph indents (first line of each new paragraph, including dialog)
e. Please, NO headers, footers, page numbering, special characters, etc. (this special formatting just has to be removed to add individual stories to the zine file, and can cause layout problems)
f. To indicate section divisions within a story, please use asterisks only (****). We'll come up with something artsy during formatting!
g. Please note: if these formatting rules present problems for you, let us know in advance and allow time to submit your story early so we can make adjustments.
4. Content Guidelines:
The only types of stories we will NOT accept are death stories, partner betrayal, or extreme kink/BDSM. This is a zine by adults, for adults, and while we reserve the right to decline a submission for either formatting, editing, or content issues, we are placing no additional restrictions on theme or "rating." Movie-verse and Book-verse stories are welcome.
5. Trib Copies will be provided to all authors who submit a story of two zine-formatted pages or longer (approximately 1,300 words). Trib copies will be shipped first, immediately following MediaWest Con (as soon as the publishers get home!).
6. Stories will remain exclusive to the zine for one year from the date of publication. Previously net-published stories, or stories the author plans to concurrently post to the net, will not be accepted.
7. Our editing philosophy: It's your story, and your voice. We will edit for spelling and grammar, check the story for continuity concerns/canon errors and bring to your attention any stylistic or plot concerns that we feel could improve the story. Spelling, grammar, and canon must be correct; most content and style suggestions are at the final discretion of the author.
