"Why else should we study civilizations as seperated from ours through time, distance, and culture as classical Greece, medieval Germany, and modern Russia? Although many of the people involved in these epochs are long dead, what they did has touched everyone alive today.

Well, I should hope that most of the people who were alive in classical Greece are long dead...
