I think this is the first negative journal update in a good while. First of all, the first of my friends is going back to school this Sunday. No good. It's more the "I'll see you on Thanksgiving" goodbye that's upsetting-- not the actual going-back-to-school part, which is great in and of itself.
I got to the campaign office for my last full day there (period), and I was sad. Not only will I miss my Republican Jew Crew (they renamed me Moshe Benlayla), I also found out that the volunteer coordinator (senior at Yeshiva and an awesome kid) had been fired on Friday. No good. In his place is that crazy, hardcore non-kosher lesbian who made me get drunk at the last event! Well, at least an alcoholic's taking Yoni's place.
The whole Gaza Strip thing makes me really sad too. I used to be pretty pro-Palestinian (I still am, somewhat, if ever so slightly), but they really give me nothing to believe in. And besides that, having to leave your home because of political reasons is one of the worst things one must do. Of course, millions of Palestinians had to do that decades ago. It's hard no matter who's involved. I think it's the right thing to do, but at the same time I find myself rooting for the settlers who are resisting, even if it's futile.
Then again, at least they get to move their belongings to another part of their own country, and are compensated by the government. My parents' families lost all they had to the state, and had to leave their country with nothing but two suitcases per person, with no hope of ever returning.
