Too Cranky To Quote

Dec 05, 2011 00:33

My head hurts (oh yes, a new storm coming in), the internet connection I'm forced to use sucks (it's so bad, I can barely watch ANYTHING-lots of long pauses, lots of reloading, it's just crazy making; I want my own connection back yesterday), and I'm getting over the sick and dealing with the SAD. Last week was okay until...late Thursday? I'd been feeling off most of the week, by Wednesday the congestion was hitting, by Friday, I was definitely down. As was youngest. And of course, the SAD is just knocking me down energy wise. I slept most of the weekend. Still want to sleep.

Managed word count. Finances didn't work out the way we'd hoped, so I'm out my hormones until this Friday, and my son will be off his Concerta for a day or two as well. We couldn't pay any more on rent and picked up only a few basics for groceries.

So, yea, cranky.

This week has a couple events coming up that don't really make it busy for me, but are important none the less. And one, Chef's last cooking final, starts to see the end of a tunnel. He still has two weeks to finish up a project, but he actually doesn't have to go in to class, and can contact the chef teaching the class when he needs with questions and whatnot. He can work a bit more over the next couple of weeks, important since there will be no work Christmas week.

Also this week: my youngest turns 18. All my kids will be adult age wise (my son is developmentally closer to 14), which is beyond weird. Her sisters have plans for her over the weekend, and we're replacing the cell we took away from her a year and a half ago. Now that she's 18 and can decide to disappear for awhile, we need a way to contact her. Chef's not happy about the upgrade fee, but I need a way to find out where she's at if she decides not to come home, so he's just going to have to deal.

(Told ya, cranky!)

This is the kid I worry about the most, actually. My son, well, he'll always be living with someone to help make sure he's taken care of and doing the things he needs to do. The two older girls have their issues, but both were ready to move on long before they turned 18. Youngest still has sticky fingers and...well, let's just say despite the sticky fingers (which pleases no one), she really seems to be a people pleaser. Though, she's also the one out of the three girls who seems to get that if the ship is sinking, and you're on it, you need to help plug the holes before thinking about yourself (as in, life/health/safety threatening things come before other things that don't have those risks if not achieved). She's staying with us for now-she has goals that require a diploma, so she has to finish high school. She's struggling with it, more than she should, but she seems determined to get through despite that. So, she stays with us and isn't being required to get a job as long as she keeps helping around the house. What were her chores will now be her job. The idea is to let her focus on school. She's already struggling; she doesn't need a job distracting her further and taking time she can't afford away from her school work. So far, she seems to see the necessity of it. I suspect next year might end up a bit differently, but she's on the same page with us for now.

The ex and I need to talk about new arrangements now that youngest is 18. He's continuing to pay support for boyo, but boyo is a special case. Unfortunately, we can't take another hit to our finances until Chef is working at least full time (and I'd rather not take a hit until we're out of the house from hell; the expenses here are killing us). He currently plans to keep the catering since it looks like he's being groomed for promotion. He was put on the schedule faster than any new hire they've ever had, and the chefs he's worked with have all pushed him to do a little more. He'll be looking for a part time day job to compliment it and give him hours when there are little to none for the catering. But that's still a bit ahead of ourselves. For now, I have to keep the income steady a month or two. We're not out of the woods here yet, and another income drop would put us in worse trouble. So that's a discussion that's on the table soon as well.

However, this is the end of the tunnel for us, or at least moving into the end of the tunnel. He has 2 weeks left for school, but no set class times during that period (after this week). They have to clean the kitchen of the class restaurant. He has the project. After that is the portfolio show (where he's already slated to receive an academic award) and he's done, done, done. And available for work, work, work. ;)

Anyway, despite the low energy, despite the sick and frustrations, the numbers for last week are pretty good. Didn't cross off much goal wise, which really is to be expected when not feeling well, but I did keep writing/revising. And so far the chapters are coming back from my pre-beta reader with decent comments. So despite all the yuck going on right now, things are going pretty well writing wise.

Still feeling tired. Still on my iron and multivitamin, and it'll take at least a week or two before I have to worry about being off the hormones that keep me from bleeding to death, so it's got to be leftover sick (even though it wasn't that bad) and SAD. Don't see the SAD getting any better over the next few days (rain predicted through at least Wednesday), and I suspect in addition to the mild cold, there's a sinus infection trying to gear up. Have some cranberry juice for that, but once it's gone, it's pretty much gone so have to hope I can nip it early. All of this to say, I'm not looking forward to a very productive week. It'll probably be much like last week, with the writing going fairly well, but the rest not so well.

So I'm taking a little pressure off: I'm dropping the exercise component for the rest of the year. I haven't been doing it, and all I feel when I see it right now is guilty. I'll get back to it at the beginning of the year. One of Chef's checks has got to be big enough for me to be able to pick up a scale. As weird as it sounds, weighing in really helped me keep on track all around. For now, since I can't weigh in and see that what I'm doing is working, I'm just going to let it go. Still trying to watch portions, but that'll be about it, I think.

This lightens up the goals just a little bit. At least it makes the list LOOK a lot shorter. lol

Here they are....

» find youngest's SS card :: def MIA

I gave youngest her med card and social security card some time back. Now she needs ti for an ID and we can't locate it. One of her sisters has something planned for her birthday next weekend that requires an ID card, so I hope we can find it so she can go. The other problem is they want proof of residency. The girl doesn't pay bills, doesn't have a magazine subscription, nothing. Told people to send her a birthday card, if they were going to send one, tomorrow, and hopefully it'll help. Not holding my breath, but we'll see. I'll also hunt around for anything sent from the school. Hopefully we can find everything and get the ID for her so she can enjoy her birthday present from her sister.

Anyway, to do today....

» call about meds
» find youngest's SS card
» B.C. chapter 25
» 1250 words
» 1 DII crit
» journals: whysper
» post to writersweighin
» Market Finders update

» dinner :: kids are getting leftovers, Chef is picking something up for us
» dishes
» reading
» beta reading

So, still tired, but am going to try to get some stuff done tonight regardless. I need to stay up and wait for the delivery of youngest's backpack from oldest's fiance, and I usually stay awake long enough to make sure the kids are getting up for school. Gotta fill my hours somehow. Crossing a few things off seems the way to go.
