Building Drafts

Aug 16, 2008 12:58

Phoenix is at the building draft stage (see more about the stages in my writing here). While the notes draft has a lot of expansion going on, it's still more about determining what's what in the story and figuring out what I need in terms of world building.

The building draft is about the story. I'm finally taking all the notes, all the thinking, all the exposition and developing actual story--scenes, dialogue, actual action. I start showing, and I start using the pov that I intend for the final novel. This is where you can really see the book itself start developing.

This is also where I get nervous. Suddenly I need an actual opening, and openings always seem to be the hardest part for me. Once I get started, I'm fine, but I have to get started, and it's the one place I shouldn't skip. I'll be skipping the descriptions for now (since I've been bad and not started the world building, some of which has to do with needing to finish my A.C. world building, but a lot having to do with just not being in the mood to world build anything), but the opening, the opening I must do.

Good thing we get to revise! ;)
