But it's been a bit busy over here. Major cleaning going on. And yesterday, I thought I was going to help youngest unenroll from her school so she could enroll at another. That didn't happen, but I still stayed up until we found out it wasn't happening, then crashed until noon or so. Not enough sleep, so tried to go to bed early last night, but ended up later than planned because a new book I'm reading sucked me in. This is not a bad thing, except of course I really need the sleep. The weekend is going to be wicked busy.
Staying up did help me get through the comments from my final beta. There were a few things she asked about that would have required some major rewriting in those sections, but she was the only one who asked, so I let them be for now. I did end up adding about 100 words, and she managed to catch some silly stuff. Anyway, Charms is off to my initial agent picks, and has even garnered its first rejection (which kinda upset me: she was one of my top picks, and more for her than her agency, if that makes sense). I think the book is solid, but my query letter? Not so much, and the rejection came from a query letter only agent.
Course, I freely admit some shorts I thought were solid are still homeless. Shows you how much I know. :P
Most of the week has been spent cleaning. Steamed the carpets in the front hall, living room, and part of the dining area (where a cat had scooched). We seem to have 2 cat box challenged cats: my female who only has issues when she's in heat or the older female is being bitchy, and my older male who has had all the UTI problems. The good is the carpet is light enough that we can see if he's having issues again; the bad news is a cat who is not having issues is harder to correct than one that is. AND the bugger has started spraying despite being neutered! I've put him back on his medicine in case he is starting to have issues again and it just hasn't gotten bad enough to show, and we're dumping both in the cat boxes a couple times a day. Hopefully the move is what started this and they'll eventually get it. But this is part of why we have our own carpet cleaner. That and not throwing up as much doesn't mean they aren't throwing up at all.
Anyway, not expecting to post much for the rest of the week. I usually don't manage to post goals Thursday through Sunday anyway (not sure why, and you all probably don't miss them anyway), and this weekend is going to be a bit crazy. Friday we grocery shop and do as much prep and early cooking for Sunday as we can, Saturday is the grad ceremony and going out to dinner with friends (their treat) and probably some touch up cleaning around the house, Sunday is more cooking and the family dinner. I'm actually not even expecting to get much writing done over those three days.
Feeling like I'm coming down with something and really hoping I'm not. Probably should get to bed early tonight, if I can. Plus my weight is spiking despite starting to exercise again. I'm also taking my hormones every other day instead of every day, so I'm wondering if it has anything to do with that. Regardless, considering what's up for Sunday, trying not to be too concerned about it.
Speaking of which, Sunday's menu:
Homemade Tortilla Chips w/2 Salsas: Roasted Tomato and Roasted Tomatillo
Avocado Soup Shots w/Tortilla Strips and Pico de Gallo
Lobster Cakes w/Mango Sauce and Pickled Red Onion
Steak & Shrimp Fajitas
Homemade Refried Beans (which he's gotten compliments on from Hispanic home cooks)
Spicy Pork Buns w/Mango Sauce (maybe on the chutney; and these are kinda like empanadas)
Homemade Taquitos
Avocado-Mango Salad (Avocado-Pineapple if we can't find any mangoes; he uses this in his Caribbean Egg Rolls)
Banana Cake w/Crystallized Ginger OR a Chocolate-Walnut Cake
Tropical Sunrise (drink)
It'll probably be set up more as a tasting menu since there's so much, but he really wants to show off for his father (who is coming out from Cali for the graduation). We'll be spending a good chunk on this plus regular groceries for the next week, but it is his graduation, a day he never thought would come.
I'm so proud of him.
