Apologies for Cross-posting...
Hey guys, I know lots of you are mad run long distances for... various reasons. I've got some charity places in this upcoming event. See details below! It'd be awesome if you'd like to get involved. Cheers, Alex

The Royal Parks Half Marathon - Sunday 12th October 2008

Are you ready to take up the challenge of running the Royal Parks Half Marathon whilst fundraising for a great cause?

Public places have now sold out for this exciting new event but there’s good news: places are still available if you run whilst supporting our charity, Get Connected, which would combine getting fit for the challenge with the great incentive of raising funds for a cause that is close to your heart.

The Cause:

The vision of Get Connected is that every young person in the UK can find the help they need to support their physical and emotional well-being. Get Connected is a free telephone, email and webchat helpline service finding young people the best help whatever the problem. Available anywhere in the UK, 1pm - 11pm every day, we can provide free connections to local or national services, and text information to caller’s mobile phones.

The Challenge:

Run 13 miles alongside 12,500 competitors through a unique, beautiful course that winds through four of London’s parks and alongside the Thames. This event promises to be as big as the London Marathon, so make sure you get involved!

Among the athletes supporting the event are Sally Gunnell and James Cracknell. James has put together useful training tips and plans for runners, available on the website.

The event has been constructed with great awareness of the environmental impact. The organisers have put some impressive initiatives together, including running shirts made of bamboo, and eco-medals.

Runners and their supporters can make a full day of the event. There will be a food and fitness festival contained within an exhibition village around the start-finish line. There will be plenty of activities for children and adults, giving everyone a chance to get involved.

Full details can be found on the race website: www.royalparkshalf.com

What’s involved:

All we're asking at Get Connected is minimum sponsorship of £500, which includes a deposit of £50, which we'll need to confirm each entry. You’d be surprised just how easy it is to reach this target. We will provide tips on ways to raise funds and are always available to offer help and advice.

The deadline for registering is 22nd August. Please contact Alexandra Parsons, Fundraiser for Get Connected, on 020 7009 2500 or at alexandra.parsons@getconnected.org.uk for further details and the entry form. Runners will need to complete and return the entry form and forward their deposit to secure their place.

We look forward to you joining the Get Connected team!
