Finishing out the 90s Batman Quadrilogy, the second installment, the one that got Burton fired from doing the other two.
The good: Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer have good chemistry as Batman and Catwoman. Also, if you're a Burton fan, the first 20 minutes or so, introducing the Penguin, have a classic Burton feel.
The bad: The plot is almost lost as the characters dance through the movie, trading off partners from scene to scene. Christopher Walken, of whom I am a fan, does not play his character convincingly. This is a problem, as he is really the central figure of the film -- it's his plan to take over the city that brings in the Penguin as a mayoral candidate, and his attempt to murder Selina Kyle to cover his tracks that creates Catwoman.
The gross: Danny DeVito does a great job playing a disgusting Penguin, surely just as Tim Burton wanted him to. But watching him waddle around in sewage-stained long johns and tear into raw fish with his rotting pointed teeth is just nasty.
My remake: A rom-com between Keaton and Pfeiffer, relegating the other characters to supporting roles.
