So, I thought I ought to add more pretty to my manga library. Let's face it. Naruto features some of the most fashion challenged people IN THE WORLD. The Unitard has just been replaced with The Manbra. And capri pants on guys are just the height of sexy. Bleach is okay, but except for the standard shinigami outfit, everyone's pretty hip and modern...ish. Fruits Basket, Yotsuba: same thing, mostly modern clothes. FMA...light blue military uniforms and a red hoodie...and The Original Manbra. Trigun: Self Dying Hair, literally! (Bad pun! Kill it with fire!)
Boooooooooooorrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg.
Enter D.Gray-Man and Blade of the Immortal.
D.Gray is damn pretty. Isn't
Ticky Mick pretty? And
Allen (white/pink), Rabi (red), and Kanda (purple) are very pretty. (<-- this picture is very, very big. Scroll to the right and there's a bunny hanging on a cross, I shit you not.) Okay, so we don't see much of their outfits, but it's faux 19th century, so I'm just tickled.
They're all just so damn pretty! (Another BIG picture) Another plus is that although the main character (Allen) is 15, the guys I like are 18 (Rabi) and
insane* 29. I don't have to feel like Mary Kay Letourneau. Yay! (* the red text around him says "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" And there's the bunny again!)
Blade of the Immortal...is very, very violent. Violence against women. Violence against men. Violence against otters. Violence against men dressed as otters. There's self mutilation, dismemberment, head slicing, rape, psychotic medical experiments, worms, torture, lots and lots of cutting of people parts, and the, um, weird otter thing.
The art is really nice,
though. D.Gray is published in the same magazine as Naruto and Bleach. Blade of the Immortal has a 16+ rating. So does that count as diversity?
I just wanted to have all these pictures linked in one place. Whee!
