Chapter 18 and More Birth Plans...

Jul 25, 2006 22:18

I did some work on chapter 18 yesterday--just a few paragraphs' worth, but they were excellent paragraphs (I'm currently in the middle of a pre-birth conversation between Phoebe and Piper), so I consider it time well spent. Scenes involving the whole family can be a bit more difficult to work with, since there are more personalities in play and not all will interact peacefully (if that's the mood I want for the scene; in any other case, I'm happy to sit back and watch the fireworks). However, I don't have that problem here--the sisters are comfortable and in tune with one another, and it reads that way.

I also have a definite "birth plan" for Piper now, so I know what I'm doing as far as the amount of time spent in each phase of labor, the position of Piper's body during labor (for those of you who find miscellaneous facts interesting, lying flat on her back in a bed is just about the worst position a woman can labor in, as it robs her of the benefit of gravity in aiding the baby in its descent through the pelvis and birth canal), and what I'm giving her in terms of pain relief. I still need to look up a few things on the Apgar scale for post-birth, but know where to get that information, so I'll put it on tomorrow's agenda.

For now, though, my goal is to manage to get to bed before 3:00 A.M. I switched my day off from Wednesday to Friday this week (which I really hope wasn't a mistake) and fully expect work to be hectic, so I'll need to get up tomorrow with more energy than I currently have.

trd, story progress
