Thanks so much for your comment on Retrospection! There'll be Chris/Cole interaction in the next chapter, but for now, have a missing moment from Chapter 28--the two of them in the nursery.
The elf vanished in a huff, and Chris watched as Cole picked up Wyatt, cradling him like-
Well, like any man with a baby nephew, gently and with an affectionate half-smile.
What was he now, that he was accepted as one of the family? Human? Demonic hybrid? Something else altogether?
“You weren’t expecting me to be here,” Cole said matter-of-factly. “Or for Phoebe to be married, or pregnant.”
It was a statement-he wouldn’t be telling him anything he didn’t already know-so he nodded. “Something changed. I don’t know what, how or why, but it brought you here.” Pausing in his pacing, he admitted, “You and the baby are variables I didn’t-”
“My family isn’t an equation you can screw with.” There was a knife-sharp, dangerous edge in Cole’s voice. “And if anything-anything-happens to them because of you…”
He didn’t finish, but the warning look in his eyes said it all.
Aunt Phoebe had said he was protective-he just hadn’t realized how much. “They were all dead in my future. I won’t let that happen here.”
There was a heavy silence. Cole crossed the room and sank onto the rocking chair, holding Chris’ gaze.
