This program made a common claim, that 95-99% of species have become extinct. However, the known record of extinct and extant species does not support this. The number of fossil species is estimated to be about 250,000, while there are about 3 million living ‘species’, or even more, depending on who’s telling the story. But if this >95% claim were correct, we would expect many more fossil species than living ones.
So, if I'm understanding the point that they are trying to make, they claim that not only everything that has ever lived has to leave findable fossil records, but also that we've found every shred of evidence there is to be found already? Someone should tell these yahoos that 80% of the Earth's surface is under millions of gallons of oceans that WE CAN'T GET ANYBODY TO to look for fossil records. Or, here's a thought, THINGS DECAY TO THE POINT OF LEAVING NO FOSSIL RECORDS. Wow, rampant stupidity makes a hell of a counter-argument, eh?
ps - I'm not trying to shatter anyone's thoughts of intelligent design, people are free to believe what they wish. I'm just saying that if you wish to refute evolution, try bringing a clue with you to the debate, kthx.
