And nothing he planned to concern himself over, but he knew that Duke very well would, a lot, until he offered more reassurance. “Don’t start that freaking out thing you do, it’s really not an issue; it used to stress me out too but I’ve been to the doctor a few times and it’s not anything bad as far as they can tell. Probably just because I was outside in the cold for a while earlier, sensitive allergies or something ( ... )

“Sounds busy,” Jai replied without much effort in the matter, as long as Duke had not been bored senseless he really was not too worried about what the other man had or had not done during the day. Or, he cared; he just found no reason to press for details over every small thing.
“They ran you out? Not very surprising, the kitchen becomes female territory sooner or later around the holidays, I learned to stay away years ago.”

“Probably are,” he agreed while sliding his glasses back in place, “And we’re being social, right?”
Jai gave a passive shrug and motioned towards the kitchen as a cue for Duke to follow as he headed that direction.

Dinner had been immensely enjoyable for Duke, and he was almost disappointed to have so many of the others at the table leave so soon afterward. His mood had escalated far higher than it had been before the meal, and he was grateful for the chance to be a part of this, to be welcomed in as a guest and to have the opportunity to enjoy Christmas with the rest of the family ( ... )

But after Jai spoke, Duke didn't hesitate in giving his own answer. "It's been really amazing here... If Jai wants to again... I wouldn't mind coming, too. I'd really like that." He didn't want to force Jai to agree to anything, but he couldn't help but want to offer his enthusiasm on that matter anyway, just so that the others at the table knew his stand on the matter ( ... )

Since he could not complain about something he had insisted on in the first place Jai took it in stride and spent the better part of half an hour cleaning dishes while Duke made himself useful around the rest of the kitchen with Julia ( ... )
