Materialistic vs. Emotional/Sentimental attachment

So, Corie's out here watching "Clean House" and we started discussing how they go through your stuff and see what they can sell to get money to fix things up and/or get new stuff (which seems futile to me, but ( Read more... )

I watch Clean House too and yeah it bothers me when they force the families to get rid of heirlooms. They pressure them. There's a better show called Clean Sweep on The Learning Channel. They put everything out in the yard and separate it into piles so it's not about making money. I think Clean House is a neat show but the purpose is sometimes lost because they're trying to make money to use for the revamping. It's on more often than Clean Sweep so we always watch it. It inspires us to clean and organize because we need to!

I noticed that too and it kind of annoyed me. If I tell you no, I mean no, not 'keep bugging and pressuring me until you get your way.' Like the new one from tonight. The woman said that every Saturday night they go to a friends house and play games. They always bring the games because they have so many. Some of the games are older and really hard to find. The guy kept bugging her until she finally put them in the garage sale, even though she was clearly upset about it.

Oh and to answer your question every time I see that show I think if they were to come to my house the most obvious thing they'd want to get rid of is my Aragorn Standee. It takes up space and isn't very decorative but I love it. They can have just about everything else. We don't have a lot of great stuff here in the first place.

I watch that show too sometimes. They probably wouldn't want me on there, lol. I lean towards majorly sentimental about things but then others not so much, but the things I want to keep you just better watch out, hehe. Like they would risk bodily harm if they touched my grandmother's dressers. We had to pretty much steal them back from the asshole son of my grandfather's second wife after she died (long story).

Another show that drove me nuts was Trading Spaces, the way they'd paint over nice wood furniture and take down every single ceiling fan they came across. Guess they'd never spent a summer down south. :)

I had a solid walnut table and hutch that my aunt gave me years ago. I loved it. I remember being little and cleaning it for her w/ Pledge. It had lots of nooks and cranies so it would take a loooong time.

I was very attached to it and vowed never to part with it.

Then I got divorced.

Then it wouldn't fit in my new house. :(

I gave it to the X because he said he would save it for Connor.

We will see.

Sometimes you just have to part w/ things. It sucks...but life goes on.
