PS3: Overview so far.

Right, so I suppose it's about time for the update regarding the PS3. Forgive the randomness, I'm just gonna talk about stuff as it comes to me.

Thankfully, I'm struggling to find bad points about the machine. At the moment, there is a lack of above-average games. There are five that interest me in some way, and I already own two of them: ( Read more... )

Yeah, tried to mix the negatives and the positives. I'm sure as time goes on more will become apparent.

Little niggling things annoy me, like not being able to group music and video clips, which means you have a long list to scroll through to find what you want. An OS update will fix that eventually I bet, but for now it's one of those minor annoyances that get less minor as time goes on.

I got my room set up on Friday night, so I had a good relaxing weekend gaming and doing other fun stuff. Oddly enough, even though there's now more cords running around the place, because I had to tidy up my desk to get things in place, everything looks cleaner, even though there's now more stuff.

Saturday could definitely happen - maybe even Friday night? Although I can't remember how well you're set up for guests yet, plus I'm not quite sure where I'm going to be with my new project; getting together with the director tonight to go over the footage and have a chat about it over beers.

I look forward to a post about the positives - I'm sure there's plenty, the 360 is a kickass machine. :)

Well, I spose I could sort out the spare "cat-free" room for guestage during the week.

Our Mop/Vacuum was quite successful at keeping Amanda's senses under control, I'm not sure how you two rate up with eachother - although I know for certain that a cat-free room (and thus sleep) will go a long way to not having your Sinus' implode.

Did you end up using the Speaker Cable? Did you notice any difference? With my Z-680's as i mentioned it was all about the sound basically staying "stable" as volume increased. The original cables made the sound clip, whereas the decent speaker cable kept it clear.

Xbox 360 is just as bad with the Media bit - if not worse. I can't play it unless its MP3, WMA or WMV. I investigated a transcoder server (you HAVE to either use WMP11 or Windows Media Center 2005 to stream to the xbox) but it was hit and miss, with the service crashing every 2-3 video clips played.

It also is a complete nuisance in that it lumps ALL your content in the one folder "video" or "music". Fuck that when you have 7 or 8 thousand mp3's.

Unfortunately if the myriad of suck continues in regards to a media player for either platform, I'll have to build the home pc as well - if I do, I might as well just fucking stick a Blu-Ray player in that and have a look at the XBMC that is being recoded for PC.

Honestly, Microsoft should have just taken a huge leaf out of the XBMC guys (fuck, hire them) and implement the exact thing for the 360. There is no good reason why they haven't. None.

Ah, so the 360 does that as well. Yes, it's a problem. Hopefully one that'll be fixed, although if it's gone THAT long in the 360... :-/

Completely agree re: XBMC.

What about that TVersity program or whatever it is? That's what I'm going to be trying out for my PS3.

Re: guest room. Keep Telfast in there. Problem solved! :D

I haven't changed speaker cable yet for two reasons - one, I wanted to just plug and play this weekend, and two, I want to test out the speakers in their current locations before I 'commit' with a wire-cut. So far I'm happy with the location sonically, but I might have to fiddle with the levels of the rears to really be able to tell if they're where they should be.
