So tonight I had to say goodbye to one of those people who made the Navy a fun place...Frank Gravinese. This man is one of my best friends and I wish he didn't have to go, but I wish him well as he goes off back to the States to be a civilian again and enjoy life.
I'm really going to miss him, but him going is one of the final nails in the coffin for my Navy career. I am not going to reenlist. In June, 2010 I will be a civilian again. I am going to college and I will earn my pay as a regular citizen. I will always love the Navy, however. If you have not been in the military, I am sorry, but you can not know the the depths of devotion and pride I have in the DoD. I can not say you can't love your college or your job or your family...it's just a seperate kind of love. Different and so very wonderful. But I am ready to bid it adieu.
One of the problems i will have in college and the rest of my life is the fact I will not stand for anyone talking shit on the military. Bad mouth the leaders and what we may do, but if you say "people who join are stupid" or "people in the military are brainwashed" or "the military is filled with nothing but murderers"...be prepared to argue with me. I am going to rip you apart and leave you bleeding with my words. I am very patient...I have no tolerance for ignorance.
I have been there. From the radio studio to a sailing ship to the sands of Iraq...I have seen a lot. If someone who has no idea what we do tries to tell me different...they are going to hate me because I will prove them for the ignorant jackasses they are.
But anyways, I am really looking forward to getting out and seeing my friends back home again. Sexy Couch, Cameron, Erin and all the rest...you guys are awesome and I miss you everyday. Hope to soon sit back on a couch, with some facial hair (because I wont have to shave everyday!!) and just chill.
Very shortly, one year....I will be home for good.
