a/n: Originally for the
femslash100prompt word "strange", but it got a little too long and I didn't have the heart to chop it up because I really like my attempt at a Buffy!voice in here.
“You know, we never go out together during the day,” Buffy notes, with the kind of forced casualness that makes Quinn raise a questioning eyebrow at her. Buffy blanches, and hastily adds, “Not that that matters. Night is - great. It’s…dark. And stuff,” in a transparent attempt at a cover that doesn’t do her any good.
She does have a point, and Quinn admits as much in a guarded tone. “Is that a problem?” she asks, after a moment of silence. The question comes out sharper than she’d intended for it to, but she doesn’t mind so much.
Buffy sighs, and collapses onto Quinn’s bed with a tired huff of breath. Quinn keeps staring, and stamps down the urge to join her possibly-semi-girlfriend.
“No,” Buffy says, slowly, but firmly. “I just - can I ask you a…weird, question, and can you promise not to ask too many freaked-out questions about it?”
Quinn nods, wordlessly, and Buffy rearranges herself to some semblance of a sitting position, leaning back against the wall behind her, before continuing.
“You don’t burst into flames when you go out into the sun, do you?”
It’s one of those questions that a person doesn’t hear all that often - Quinn thinks that the only person anyone would ever hear it from would be the girl sitting across the room from her - and Quinn opens her mouth in startled surprise, with no words instantly springing to her lips in answer.
“I - no, of course not. What would make you…” Buffy bites her lip, and looks embarrassed, so Quinn shakes her head and instead asks, “Why, do you?”
Buffy looks a little less embarrassed, and quirks up half of her mouth in a small smile for Quinn’s viewing pleasure. “No - definitely not. I was just…curious.”
It feels to Quinn like there’s something more there to be elaborated on, but she doesn’t press the issue, and shuts her macbook closed to reap the rewards of social delicacy.
