a/n: So I really like The Tudors but um where are all the lesbians? I want a damn historical drama with historical lesbians (in more than one episode) that doesn't get cancelled after like, four episodes, please-and-thank-you-television.
If Catherine had ever in her youth been a beauty, Anne thinks she may have looked quite like the Lady Mary does. She has precisely her mother’s temperament - stubborn to the point of pigheadedness; willful and disobedient; lost in her own ways, and unable to move on with the times - and Anne thinks that she can see the slightest bit of the Dowager Princess’s physical features in the daughter, as well.
Objectively, she is lovely. Not stunning, not ravishing, not the type of young lady that men would be infatuated with or poets would write about for ages after the fact - but lovely. Though her dignity is misplaced and her childish obstinacy is not becoming of a young woman, Anne could admit, in passing to one of her ladies, (or perhaps to Mary,) that the Lady Mary will most likely grow into a beautiful bride for some elderly nobleman, one day.
But only in passing, and only to a lady she knows to be faithful. All others must think nothing less of Anne, for she is their rightful Queen, and Lady Mary speaks treason with every decorous word she offers.
Anne purses her lips, and lets only the slightest annoyance show.
Lady Mary, homely and sour-tempered, curtsies with an adamant gleam in her eye that Anne regards as disloyal to the Crown.
She exits without being dismissed, but Anne doesn’t remember that as much is an insult unto her station until the damage done to her in the eyes of her ladies is already set.
