Bring on the Sun

Apr 22, 2011 17:32

I have always had pretty lofty expectations of updating this thing more than a few times a year, but I can't seem to make it happen.  Life just gets in the way and I will always, ALWAYS prefer a real pen and paper over this digital fiasco.  But I hope to write regularly for a music blog and figure I could use some practice before I apply for the "job".

So it's finally feeling like springtime in the Pacific Northwest.  It's fascinating how much the general population changes once the sun comes out.  Suddenly, the plaza is filled to the brim with students, faculty, and homeless people, milling about, eating lunches, or hunting for empties.  There's a certain smell in the air that reminds me of those first few, glorious weeks in Portland.  It takes me right back to that first bike ride through the city, with nothing but freedom by my side.

I can't wait until it's really summer and I'm able to spend my evenings on the back porch with a beer, my guitar, and hopefully a certain someone.  Since I recently released my second solo album, I'm ready to learn a few covers and just have some fun.  I really don't know how to play anything other than my own stuff and I think it might be nice to bust out something that other people might actually know for a change.

Speaking of my album, it's been finished and released since the middle of March.  I'm very proud of it and believe that it's another step up for me from Recession Depression, Progression.  If you haven't heard it yet, hop on over to my bandcamp page and give it a listen:  Reigning Parade - The Full Moon Mourning

I got a new bike this spring.  It's an older Trek touring bike.  Compared to my last few bikes, it's quite deluxe and very capable of making it to the beach.  I'm learning how to fix and maintain it myself the best I can.  I'm very interested in bicycle mechanics and get quite a sense of satisfaction when I manage to figure these things out on my own.  I'm finally acquiring a fair collection of tools.  It's amazing how much easier repairs are when you have the right tool for the job.

I currently have three part time jobs in the same plaza.  I still work for the Greenline Market and the UPS Store, and just picked up a few hours a week at the PSU Bookstore's computer and electronics department.  It's a little confusing, but I manage forty hours a week, finally.  I'm pretty content with my work situation.

And for once, I can say my love life is good.  At this point, I'm not willing to give details, but things are swell and look really promising.

I suppose that's all I have to say about that.

Good day
