MY DD, who is now 18 and a senior in high school, received a phone call from one of the universities we talked with at the recent college fair at the Austin Convention Center.
This college is Robert Morris University in Chicago, IL, where DD is hankerin' to go. This stems from a lot of reasons, mainly the fact that she spent six of her most formative years living in that area of Illinois, and considers more home than Texas. Boyfriend, best friends and weather also factor in to the equation.
Anyway, a rep from RMU called this evening and just chatted with her. She hadn't really considered them, even though they're a "sister" university to the one she is interested in, which is Columbia College; also located in Chi-town.
The rep was very friendly, and gave Jess a lot of info on Robert Morris. He also asked her what kind of score she made on the ACT after Jess asked what kind of merit based aide they provided, as well as the types of scholarships they had. When she told him she scored a 22, he told her she could qualify for a $5,000 scholarship.
Then he asked what she scored on her SAT. She told him between 1400 and 1600. To which he replied, "Wow! That'd could earn you a $15,000 scholarship."
Jess replied in what she terms her "dork manner". Stunned giggle, then, "Really?"
Yeah, sweetie, good response. Show 'em just how brillant you really are.
