The Nose Knows

WARNING! I AM DISCUSSING MY SURGERY IN THIS WEEK'S ENTRY; SO READER BEWARE!

Well, dear readers, it's a week post-op; and my nose still feels like it got bopped by a rolled up newspaper. I will never tap a puppy on the nose with a newspaper again(like I ever did before!).

Actually, I'm a lot better! Last Thurs.; around 9 a.m., I was lying on a gurney; terrified out of my wits, and wondering if I'd come out of anesthetic enough to feel the surgeon working on my nose; but not be able to wake up enough to scream in pain. I've never been under; so I was a wee bit antsy.

Everyone was very nice, very considerate and concerned about my comfort. They did the utmost to ease my fears; and allowed Bill to stay with me until I was ready to go off to surgery. One of my surgical nurses was smooth as silk when he inserted my IV; and Dr. Lewis came in to see me before I went in. The "cocktail" they gave me just before I was wheeled out for surgery hit in, like, a nanosecond! I literally said, "Wow!"; which made my anesthesiologist snicker. I vaguely remember the three, overhead lights in the operating room; then zilch.

When I came around my throat really hurt from the respiration tube; but it had already been removed. I stayed on my back for a few hours and Bill came in to see me after it took my nurse, Amanda, over an hour to find him. He thought I'd be in surgery for a couple hours; so he went to get breakfast. I was in for only 1 1/2 hours. When Amanda went looking for him, they failed to tell her he had a cell; so it took a little longer to round him up.

When he got there, he and Amanda helped me to the bathroom, and then they let me sit in a recliner. I was released around 2 p.m.; groggy from Vicodin and dying of thirst. So, Bill went through Sonic and got me a RT 44 Cherry Limeade. :) Wish I could have tasted it; but the slacking of thirst was a big relief!

So, I spent the first day home in a pleasant, pink, Vicodin haze; getting up only to eat a light meal and go to the bathroom. My mom came and took care of me for a week, and my laundry and dishes didn't pile up once! LOL!

I've spent the last week sleeping in the recliner and was elated this afternoon at my post-op follow-up to be told I can sleep in my own bed again, and drive. Strenuous activities are still limited until the two week mark; and I can't go riding until my one month post-op visit. *sob* No lifting anything heavy for another week; or blowing my nose, either. The no nose blowing is a pain! At least my nose isn't aping a faucet anymore!
