Today I was "Mr. LoPresti."
I was asked to read to Brother's Girlfriend Jamie's fifth grade class (she TEACHES it... she's not IN it) in honor of Dr. Seuss' 101st birthday (he's dead now... unfortunately). Me being myself, I chose an excerpt (hint: vocab for Ms. Hughe's spelling test on Friday, children!) from Alice in Wonderland; predictably, my favorite chapter... The Mad Tea Party.
I did voices, I jumped around, I made gestures, I lost my place, I WAS LOVED. I haven't had that much fun since I conned those kids I used to babysit into watering the plants by playing "Firefighter."
Prompted by Jamie the previous class, one of the kids asked me...
"Are you mad?"
Why, little girl... "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad...."
They said I was like an actor... They said I should do theater... Too bad I'd never embarass myself in front of any of you with my one-man-show, live-action renditions of children's literature.
