I was at a grocery store yesterday and chanced upon these really cute cartoons on these packs of Vitasoy (a soya bean drink). I didn't set out to buy any but I picked these up because they really made me smile. Figured I could bring them to work and place them strategically around my work table.... or not :B
Aren't they adorable? Doesn't hurt that the drink is one of my favorite soya bean brands too! BUT - nothing beats mom's homemade soy bean. Something that takes THAT much work to make (she manually squeezes out the soy milk to separate out the pulp from the milk, since we don't have a machine for it at home) must taste as good as the amount of effort put into it :)
Over the past few days, I have also wondered if Age actually shows itself. Aside from wrinkles, stretch marks and thinning hair, which can still (!) be masked, somewhat, by cosmetics and non-discreet headgear, there are some things you just cannot conceal. If you actually take some time to listen to the next person who speaks to you - and I mean really listen; you'd be able to put an age to that voice. I can't remember where I had first read a scientific study on this, it was quite sometime ago, but the gist of the study is how a group of researchers recorded the voices of people representing different age groups, gender notwithstanding, and let a separate group of people listen to these voice recordings one at a time and have them identify their age and ethnicity. Most of the time, the participants guessed the ages accurately, narrowed down to a specific range. So you can try hiding your age all you want, it doesn't change anything ;)
I still find it quite annoying when people around me go all "HAHAHA, I'm younger than you!" because as much as I am comfortable being my age, what I really would like to add is that everyone dies. Unless you're immortal, I don't see why you should have any boasting rights :) It also doesn't change the fact that for every one person older than you, there are many others who are younger - and hello folks, all you young ones, newsflash: EVERYONE GROWS OLD. Biologically, your skin cells are undergoing mitosis and meiosis, your chromosomal telomeres are shortening, the sun is still killing your cells by introducing free radicals; see, you and me, we're no different. I was just conceived and born earlier than you, and you, later. That is all. No biggie.
I'm completely running on a tangent here, again. HAHA. But maybe you should try it the next time someone talks to you. Listen to the voice quality, the nuances, the choice of vocabulary, the timbre - the tone quality and color, and you'd be surprised at what you already know about the person's biological age without even having to ask ;)
