It's nearly 4am, I'm due to get up for work shortly and I haven't been to bed yet... and I don't think I can. I'm far to exhilarated after seeing this movie.
There are few movies I'd stay up for a midnight showing the night before opening day. The Dark Knight is one and it was well worth it. Had I known a 3 am showing would be added, I'd have stayed for it as well. This sequel holds up nicely to the standards set with Batman Begins. An excellent story, smartly written, it doesn't get bogged down in character origins as previous Batman sequels did. The film is captivating and while all the performances are excellent, the raves for Heath Ledger's performance are warranted. If there is a shining star of this movie, it is him. His ability to disappear and inhabit the role of Ennis Delmar in Brokeback Mountain was not an accident. He does the same with the Joker here. He is mesmerizing and is truly deserving of the Oscar nomination so many are predicting.
