Apollo Justice: Conclusion.

Warning: Slight spoilers for the Apollo Justice game, especially the ending. (Also for Death Note, since I like seeing connections between different series lol.)

It's over. I've finally finished Phoenix's seven-year journey to the truth. The game was brief, come to think of it, considering the amount of history it covered. Seven years, compressed into four short cases. There's so much left unsaid, so many details left uncovered, that there's a wealth of material for fanfiction and fanart to speculate on. Phoenix's world changed so drastically in that time... Sometimes it's hard to believe that it's connected to the world in the previous trilogy. Yet canon is canon, and I've somehow accepted it. I feel the same as I had after finishing the Death Note manga - still indignant over the way L died only halfway through the story, yet vindicated by Near's final victory. If this is the path the writers chose, so be it. I'm thankful for the opportunity to experience the story. ^^

My boyfriend said that the creators likely set up Apollo Justice's premise so that Phoenix could "rise from the ashes" and regain his former glory. I hadn't thought of it that way...and I would have believed him, if there had been such a sequel. However, the creators released Ace Attorney: Investigations, and will soon release the Layton vs Ace Attorney crossover. I suppose they've moved on, having seen that Apollo Justice is as far as they can take Phoenix's future self. (I still maintain that that game is all about Phoenix; Apollo Justice is just the man at the front lines, no more.) I don't blame them. It's hard to think of a way to extend that future in an exciting way that will yield more games. Also, Phoenix looked quite tired in Apollo Justice...tired, and old. Stopping there was like allowing him to retire, I guess. ^^;

Next up is Ace Attorney: Investigations. I thoroughly enjoyed playing as Miles in Trials & Tribulations; I'm looking forward to it. ^^ I will miss the awkward chemistry he shares with Phoenix...though there's always plenty of fanfiction and fanart to provide that in spades. X33333
