"Rubeus Hagrid and the Eagle of the Ninth" Part 1

Apr 19, 2006 22:56

Bet you didn't expect that I'd actually go through with it!

Here's the first part, in which sets the scene for the actual Eagle parts (sorry, no Eagle today - but it'll be along in due course).

Rating about PG or PG13, I suppose. The only thing you need to be warned about is that, like all the times I ever set out to be funny, it's turned out rather ( Read more... )

abandoned, fanfic, harry potter

Eh, lass (?), that's brilliant. I have just got back from being away and am utterly knackered *waves feebly* but I couldn't let this go past. I'm going to enjoy this one. Things I loved: Goatsgarth(!), poor Fang :(, Spell Damage (Martyrdom) :), a good Flitwick (and, yes, I think this is what he would do: nice combination of intellectual rigour and empathy, in that he gives Hagrid a chance), Ollivander back :) but what a miserable old sod :( who doesn't remember Harry (? what has happened to him?). Plus much more that I'm forgetting. And good old Minerva! Plus, interestingly, I chose oak and dragon for Moody in 'Cry Wolf'. Kind of the quintessential 'English' wand. 'Hearts of oak' and all that. How did you choose your wands?

Great stuff. Sorry this is so disjointed, but I think the enthusiasm is coming through at least!

'Hearts of oak' and all that.
Make moody polish his wooden leg with a tar and the set will be complete :)

Well, he has to deal with the wet waeather somehow :)

Brings a whole new meaning to the idea of magical rheumatism, doesn't it?

I'm assuming that everyone sees a big lightning scar and thinks - ah, Harry Potter. No scar = no Harry.

Well, if anyon has a heart of oak, it's Hagrid. And a big wand for a big man. And dragon heartstrings because he's so strong - if he's been working for years using a snapped wand he's probably really strong.

I was trying to make Harry's new wand quite different from the old - aiming for girly, but settled for just rather dainty.

What's this "Cry Wolf" of which I hear you speak? Link?

Fair point about the scar. Interesting that I remember Ollivander as a kindly old man, though (can't claim any canon evidence, nor am I going to look for any!). What was your impression of him from the books?

Harry's wand didn't come across as girly at all, but 'dainty' is good. Such an under-used word!

'Cry Wolf' - I might have written it before we friended each other? Three parts'; two are up and I'm writing three now. I'm pimping it, so if you do have time to comment on part two, I'd very much appreciate it. Remus and Moody, action/adventure, set after HBP. Gen. Part one 2300 words, part two 1700.

Part two is here and contains the link back to part one. Kind of a backwards way to do it, but I haven't gone back to part one and edited in the link to part two yet!

I remember Ollivander as a kindly old man

I just remember that he gave me the chills a little bit when we first met him. He seemed much more the kindly sort in Goblet of Fire, but in the beginning, when he's so vague--almost discreetly supportive--of the Other Wand...

I actually think he's one of my favourite minor characters because he's got a lot of character.

(FYI, can't wait to read Cry Wolf. Is it coming along fast enough you recommend starting now, or better to wait until it's further along?)

Yep, it's coming along pretty fast, so no harm in having a look now. This bit is all Remus, with me trying to stretch my writing outside the comfort zone a bit, so I'd be interested to see what you think!

Been to Part 1 and left a review - loved it.

Will do part 2 soon. Really looking forward to it.

I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'm just over halfway through part three, but I think some of it will be cut. Shacklebolt is refusing to take the situation seriously. He has just said to Moody: 'You know how to Apparate, don't you?'

This is a dark, angsty, action story. Not Shacklebolt/Moody!
