I think number 3 is somehow the most satisfying, and the most true to the characters. He'd have idolised her too much, and she wouldn't have been happy. Very nicely done.

Ohhh, my two favourite ships in one fic... but I just love the way you have structured this, with the three possibilities... one of the best Norribeth's I've read!

His tone suddenly turns serious. “You’re happy,” he ventures; it is not quite a question, but she hears his uncertainty all the same. “With me.”

This line especially, I love. I'm bookmarking, and adoring. Thanks for sharing :)

Ooh, thank you so much! That's lovely to hear. Originally, I was going to have five different sections, but, well, these all got a bit too long, and my brain wasn't being cooperative. Big surprise. ;-)

Thank you again! I'm glad you enjoyed this!

I know this is weird, but I've written these "5 things that didn't happen" type stories too , and I can never get past 3. Weird. My favorite story ever with this trope, though is "5 ways House doesn't die and one way he did". Brilliant, brilliant story and that author had SIX vignettes to write!

A lovely fic. I've never really been much of a fan of N/E but I loev te depths you give their relationship with these three scenarios. I also love how you instroduce Jack into the vignettes. I think this is my favourite part.

To her surprise, the pirate’s eyes meet hers. She recalls every story she’s heard of him, is struck with the sudden silly desire to ask him which ones are true. Her gaze does not waver.

He winks.

The trapdoor disappears beneath his feet; for a foolish instant, she suspects he’ll fly instead of fall.

Fantastic especially the last line!

Thank you so much!

I had a lot of fun putting a bit of Jack into each of these, because even in alternate universes or what have you, I can't quite shake the suspicion that he would be there to affect her life in some way. :) I'm glad you liked those bits!
