I'm alive, I promise. Work has been intense... has it's ups and downs, but mostly seems to be getting better. Better enough, at least, that they're sending me to Hong Kong next month. WOO

Woot! Hong Kong. I love that place. I had a blast when I was there 28 years ago - crap now I feel old. I got to see a lot of Hong Kong most tourists don't get to see. Our HK tour guide took a liking to me and after work she would take me to the coolest local clubs, bars & restaurants. So much has changed since I was there that I can't recommend much except see the harbor at night, the building sized neon signs are wonderful, & ride the funicular to the top of Victoria Peak (or whatever it's called now) the view is nice.
Free advice etc: 0. Hook up with a local you feel safe with. 1. When on public transport remember, elbows out and move quickly 2. Consume all things local. Lao Shan Kele beats Dr. Pepper by miles. I had some of the tastiest things ever there. 3. Adding to the above, if offered deep fried pigeon eggs definitely give them a try. I wish I could have some now. 4. If someone calls you a 'gwai loh' - foreign devil - give them a dirty look. 5. Remember to look both ways _twice_ when crossing the street. 6. According to the locals, HK smells like money & HK has a specific sound or note, like NYC. I heard the note(1) while I was there but that wasn't money I smelled. Hong Kong doesn't translate as 'Fragrant Harbor' for nothing. 7. Have fun!
(1) I was watching a documentary on HK recently and that note was still there and very recognizable.
