ON THE JOB
Dlanor is the Chief Inquisitor of Eiserne Jungfrau. Dlanor's outside personality is that of cold and lifeless 'murder doll' who refuses to even flinch at the feeling of pain. Dlanor always carries a serious air around her. It's to the point where most ignore her appearance as a child and think of her as inhuman instead. She is the type of person who could walk into a room and stop all conversation just with her presence which is edged full of dignity. Clearly her pride is something that can be seen just by the way she carries herself. But while Dlanor is proud she is not arrogant; she knows when to accept her own losses. Whenever Dlanor realizes that there is no way to win a fight she will admit her defeat and let her opponent slay her. This is true pride without arrogance attached to it.
This pride is also not without the ability to back it up; Dlanor is competent and able bodied. One of her nicknames is 'Death Sentence Dlanor' and she is aptly nicknamed this. Once she has been assigned to sentence to death she refuses to show pity. She herself comments on this saying that "sympathy is the evil liquor that the proud are most fond of." During battle she is ruthless and without mercy and she never shows any hesitation to bring down her sword upon any evil that may crop up. She even refused to hesitate when slaying her own father. This is because Dlanor is an incredibly chivarious person. She made it her sworn duty to serve god for all eternity and she takes this duty more seriously than anything else. She is loyal to a fault and will do anything assigned to her regardless of her own feelings about the matter. Dlanor also always does her best no matter what her job is. From executions to paperwork one could easily call her a perfectionist.
She also won't hesitate to taunt and mock her opponents a bit but it's never in a harmful way. In fact, the feeling around Dlanor's taunts is much more like the way friendly rivals would argue amongst each other. Dlanor actually holds a lot of respect for her opponents. While she will say things like 'I was disappointed in your performance' it's actually just her way of trying to cheer her rival on and get them to try a bit harder. While Dlanor holds very high standards for herself she holds everyone around her to those same standards. For example, even when Battler was killed and hanging on her sword lifeless, and everyone else had given up on him, Dlanor hints at the fact that she believed he would come back to life. Dlanor holds a lot of faith in people once you've earned her respect.
Many gossip about Dlanor saying she no longer even has a heart. This is hardly true, however, even in her professional job Dlanor is not a homicidal murderer. Dlanor does everything by the book. When Bern and Erika want to execute the furniture and witches using cruel torturing methods Dlanor speaks out right away against this. She also mentions that she files paperwork while not actively working on cases and that her office is so busy that paperwork can take up to a month to be processed. She still speaks of this system with pride. Dlanor is the kind of person that while on the job she will abide to standards and procedures regardless of how off the wall they may be because they provide order and stability to an otherwise chaotic world.
OFF THE JOB
Suprisingly enough Dlanor's 'murder doll' persona is not her true personality; she admits to putting on a different face while preforming her job. While she finds evil to be detestable and horrible she knows that magic isn't evil. When it comes down to it she can put aside her job and be very tactful in relaxed environments. When Dlanor is served tea by Virgilia, a witch, using magic, she does not go out of her way to deny this magic. She realizes that this would be incredibly rude of her and can set aside her personal differences easily to enjoy good conversation over some tea. More about Dlanor's politeness: she's honestly polite to the point of being very conscious and well spoken. During episode 5 Dlanor visits Beato and Battler simply to pay respects to them as the original owners of the game board. She also gives Battler free hints on Beato's game and tips to deal with witches because, according to her, she had to make up for not bringing a gift. This goes beyond average manners that are taught to a child and into showing Dlanor's true nature. She is mindful and always careful with her words but she also never hesitates to be honest and frank either.
Dlanor is also very compassionate and sensitive in her own way on her own personal time. One could say that she is over sensitive away from her job to make up for her cruel nature while she has to act as an executioner. In her own words she says that despite the rumors that Dlanor does not have a heart she finds this to be completely false. She readily admits to setting her own heart and personal feelings aside for her work. Dlanor believes that her heart is meaningless and therefore it's better to not display it. However, while saying this, she seems slightly insecure and unsure of herself. Dlanor herself really isn't sure if neglecting her own self is a good idea or not but she continues to do it because she feels like it's the most efficient way for her to behave. All of this makes Dlanor a bit more approachable and human and another character comments that he is able to 'understand her a bit better' and says that 'He will be able to get along with her.'
Off of the job she will act a little more relaxed and will also speak her mind a little more. For example during the series she tells Battler that Erika 'pisses her off.' This is not something she would be able to say while working. Dlanor is also an intellectual and has been said to have debated complex theories with Virgillia in the past. She proves to be quite the conversationalist despite coming off first as cold and unapproachable. Dlanor is also, as mentioned before and despite everything else a child. She enjoys eating sweet things and can only drink her tea with lots of milk and sugar in it.
Powers & Abilities:
Dlanor has the ability to use red text to speak when she is speaking the truth. However her use of the red text is limited. There are certain conditions that must be met before Dlanor can use the red truth. Here's a list of those conditions as presented in her canon material.
1] Erika uses her detective's authority to gather information. Dlanor is able to turn that information gathered by Erika into red truth.
2] Dlanor is able to use red truth relating to
Knox' Decalouge3] Dlanor can also use red truth when there is no room for doubt. In the sixth episode Dlanor was able to use red truth about murders committed by Erika herself by decapitating her victims. Since there's no chance of living after a wound like that it fulfills the 'no room for doubt' clause.
Dlanor can also use blue text to state truth that has to be answered by the game master at some point in time. She can use the red and blue truth as physical swords during a logic fight. Dlanor is adept in using a sword and she could handle a normal sword as well if given the chance to.
Dlanor is also well versed in the power of doing paperwork and when she's not punishing heretics she's up in heaven dealing with mounds of paperwork.
What items will they be bringing with them?
Dlanor will bring her clothing with her. It may seem not so practical for the setting but if she can fight with swords while wearing this I'm assuming she can handle discedo in these clothes as well.
Third-Person Sample:
The murder doll opened her eyes.
It was not a graceful movement. Her eyes did not flitter open. It was more comparable to the movement of shudders opening. Mechanical. Everything about this girl gave off the feeling of an eerie doll in the corner of your grandmother's basement that you would always avoid. This lifeless being moved her legs forward. Her heals clicked on the expensive tile. That was the only sound you could hear as this girl moved across the floor to the altar.
Dlanor had awoken in a standing position; she did not have much time for meaningless and pleasurable things like sleep and therefore she would often close her eyes and sleep for five, maybe ten minutes at the most. So when she opened her eyes to not see her desk full of paperwork but instead the halls of a church she found herself slightly puzzled. None of this confusion traveled to her face as it remained completely neutral.
In heaven there were no such things as churches. It might seem unusual but in a place that was devoted to god there was no need for a specific place to contact god. It would be best to think of heaven as a place of eternal praise whereas a church was a means of human convenience. However, Dlanor would not shame people for their praise of the lord. All that matters is such a place exists. Without a church Dlanor was sure that evil would come to wherever she had ended up at. Evil was something that she would never tolerate regardless of the situation.
But now was not the time for that. As Dlanor was in the church she had to pay her respects to the lord. Once she reached the altar she bowed her head, said a quick prayer, and then turned her back once again. Now she could focus on finding a way out of here and onto the next game board.
Or was this the next game board itself?
First-Person Sample: Good day, pardon my RUDENESS. I do feel bad about not being able introduce myself in PERSON. However I felt as if I had questions that I must address to this community as a WHOLE. I will introduce myself to you in person at a later DATE.
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Dlanor A Knox. I need any information on this place that is normally available to the PUBLIC. I do not have anything to offer in return aside from PROTECTION. I would normally gather information on my own but I have not been able to find MUCH. All I can tell is that this place seems barren and without SUBSTANCE. Anything further would be APPRECIATED. Thank you for your TIME.
[note: Dlanor's useage of capslock at the end of every sentence is the way that witch hunt, the translators of umineko, decided to indicate that Dlanor uses katakana at the end of her sentences. I wish to keep this while roleplaying as her.]
