Went with studygroup Animo to Cologne (Keulen), Germany last week to visit several museums and cultural places.
1st day:
Left Tilburg at 7:00am and arrived in Cologne at 11:45am with the train. After lunch we climbed the Dom and I must say I never hated staircases that much in my life after that climb.
We had a free afternoon until dinner and the concert by Agnes Obel at Stadtgarten.
Agnes Obel was better then I expected cept she needs to vary a little in her type of music. Songs ended up being the same thing. Loved Anna on her cello.
2nd day:
Early tour at the Wallraf museum. I must say I dislike Icons. If you've seen one story painted about the life of Jesus you've seen then all. The Alexandre Cabanel exposition rocked. I found a new favorite painter next to Dali and Mucha. Ended up purchasing a book about his works, fortunatly they had an english version at the shop.
In the afternoon we were supposed to have a tour at the MMC studios but due to a misshap in communications we ended up at the wrong studio location and were used as fill-in audience for the Belgian version of the show "Mijn man kan dat". It's funny to know that only 1/3 of the audience were made up out of people who understood flemish, the rest were german and clapped on the auto-cue. Show will air somewhere in mid-May.
In the evening we ended up at a German Karaoke bar which closed too soon, the rest went out to a club but I ended up going back sooner to the hostel because my knees were killing me.
3rd day:
Long awaited visit to the Ludwig museum. Its dedicated to 20th century painters and I ended up seeing the actual work my bedsheets are based on by Mondriaan. Our tour-guide ended up giving us a very good interactive tour and we went deeply in the interpretation of the works. Normally I am not that big of a fan for Modern Art but this ended up pretty sweet. The Pop-Art exhibition is definatly worth seeing.
Free afternoon and I ended up buying german mangas and ate at a Japanese lunchroom. Came home at 10:30pm.
All and all it was a good trip. A bit dissapointed that I was the only first year to show up. The rest was third years.
