i do take voice lessons, & i could not love them more! even if you are not a classical music fan (although this, i'm afraid, is the part where i tell you that i thought i wasn't either, at first, and then it turned out i'd just been listening to the wrong things), understanding your voice better & being able to control it better is a desirable thing for any sort of singer.

(we should voicepost! of course, it is always embarrassing when people do that & then they are horrific, but i have sung publicly & not been booed off, and apparently your singing is good enough for god-who i am sure has become quite discerning after centuries of requiems &c!)

and thrift stores are LOVE. clearly from the links i posted i am nyc-based at the moment, so i really can't complain of my shopping opportunities, but small-town stores have the advantage that locals won't necessarily see how their grandmother's old x could be funky if worn with leggings & a belt or whatever, and so you can find all sorts of things that in urban areas would've been snapped up by the grandchildren. (i speak from experience here, having acquired some fairly natty items for an absolute song at a thrift store on cape cod.) and that wedding gown sounds seriously awesome-clearly you should camwhore in it! *g*

Oh, I do love classical music (though I, too, have difficulty finding the right things: I tend to like things which are more stripped down; Bach's suites for solo cello do things to my heart -- but then Dad & I were watching a documentary about Stanley Kubrick, and they were playing some of the classical pieces he used in his films, mostly bits of symphonies?, anyway all very full orchestra, and I fell in love with them, despite having heard most of them in the background of things many times before). Only the kind of music I would presumably play were I to work at it, and the sort of voice I already have, is decidedly un-classical, so I wouldn't want to re-train it too much? But I'd love more control, and playing around with music is fun anyway.

Our local chain of Goodwills apparently has contracts with a lot of department stores, so they get overstock and slightly damaged goods all the time, meaning brand new clothes with the tags still on (and adorned with very terrifying prices!), although several of my favourite finds have been handmade -- I have a hand-knit green shawl that I have been wearing constantly in this weather, and a very odd long dress with lace-trimmed flowing sleeves that makes me look like some kind of freak-folk chanteuse. Only people keep asking me if I knit the shawl myself, and I have to keep telling them I didn't ... Mum gave me crochet hooks for Christmas. I need to become more crafty, to defend my indie street cred!

Heh heh: I bought the wedding dress for the sole purpose of camwhoring, and there is evidence, somewhere ... Alas, I haven't had a completely functional tripod in a very long time, or else I would model my finds for the f-list more often. ;)
