"It is not inertia alone that is responsible for human relationships repeating themselves from case to case, indescribably monotonous and un renewed. It is shyness before any sort of new, unforeseeable experience with which one does not think oneself able to cope. But only someone who is ready for everything, who excludes nothing, not even the most enigmatic, will live the relation to another as something alive."
Isn't it funny-- like an old favorite book-- when you watch a movie in a different time of your life it has a new meaning. -and I'm not talking the sexual undercurrent of Disney cartoons or the political jargon in comedies. I'm talking about seeing things in a new light. I used to watch this movie and think that it started in a very sad place with this quote, got hectic as Jessica tried to fix her problems through her sexuality [yes...], and then somehow she found her place in the world through acts of fate. The mentality I had was all based on such a pessimistic mindset, and now I see that this very same quote is, in fact, quite profound, and doesn't have to be pessimistic at all; it is hopeful. And furthermore, it is not fate which brings happiness to this woman's life after devastating events in her life; there is no time involved- and, rather, her success came at a point of being. I understand! Only when Jessica stopped trying to control her life could God's grace come to her.
The loss of a life is difficult to sort out: I still can't decide which hurts more- losing someone close to me because God took them or losing someone because he took himself; one gave up control while the other took it... and both are gone. And what of the babies lost because their mothers took control- not going into the pain they cause for the ones who were praying for that child? The mother is still alive; My brother had an amazing life, did nothing wrong- and now he's lost because someone he loved and gave his life to is selfish. Still, death can't be feared. And neither should failure--
Funny thing is I only intended for this entry to be the quote- and here I am rambling about life and morality... I have come to a point in my life where I can stare into my enemies' eyes fearlessly knowing that I have the best of intentions. Also, I can say to the faces of my critics that I am an open-minded, intelligent person. Finally, I don't need to fear failure, because there isn't any such thing...
A year ago today I thought my life was over--- A year ago tomorrow my life had begun... God had finally sent me my guardian angel, and the best part about it is that I neither saw it coming, nor cared for it to come--- but that's the reason it did!
