The Dolly and the shoemaker

Well, after several false starts, I finally made some ballet-type shoes for the dolly.  The second to last hurdle completed.  The last hurdle will be wings.

I'd originally envisaged some little lace-up boot things.  Hope suggested using a last.  She'd constructed lasts to make the boots for my Victorian girl, but this dolly's feet are slightly larger, so I added some more polymer clay to her lasts and baked them.  Unfortunately, after I had cut out the boots and pretty well put them together, I found I'd altered the lasts until they were too big and I had shoes that looked like they belonged to Frankenstein rather than my dolly, who has feet that are actually too small for her size.

So this morning I woke up with a genius idea and decided to put the dolly's stockings on and then wrap her lower legs and feet with plastic wrap to protect them from the glue.  After than, everything went swimmingly, and I made the cutest ballet slippers:

They are embroidered, and even lined!  I'm going to attach ribbons to them so that they garter like ballet slippers.  To give you an idea of scale, they're 1 7/8" long.

Unfortunately, that's the only thing I've accomplished today, other than making some awesome stir fry.  Off to see if I can write at least a little bit.  The fanfic muse is trying to break through, but I must beat her into submission in favor of NaNo stuff.
