Was it you I was having a conversation with about characters I liked in ASOIAF? I seem to remember disappearing after saying I was rather ashamed of mine, and probably leaving you with the impression that it might be Jaime, because I think that was what you suggested?

It isn't him, much as I think he's an excellently drawn and appealing character - Martin has really done a good job of showing changes wrought by suffering. It came as quite a jolt re-reading GOT since I'd got him in my head as he is by the end of FFC and forgotten the arrogant gold glitter from the beginning of the series. Although I think the possibilities were always latent - it's just that, since no-one expected anything like honour from Jaime after he became the Kingslayer he did his damnedest not to give it to them.

And I love his interactions with Tyrion, and am thoroughly depressed by the fact that they may well die still estranged. Are probably likely to, since this is Martin.

So no, there's an awful lot going for Jaime. The same can not be said for Theon. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa...
