The child’s legs were crossed as he sat upon his bed while his eyes were locked on a wooden box which was resting on his dresser. The sun was dimming and getting ready to set as he patiently waited to make his escape from his constraint environment. The lady would be back tonight just as she was during each full moon. He disliked the fashion in which she was dictating their schedule, but unfortunately he could not control her.
He should not meet her, but he would. Each meeting they had she had refused to provide him with any kind of answer and he was getting quite impatient. Ever since the day she had given him the jewel, he had put it away and had not touched it. The jewel was not his: it was hers. He even wondered why he hadn’t thrown it away by now.
Also, the problem was, he did not know when she would retrieve it. She had clearly stated that she would come back for it one day; she had simply failed to specify when that day would arrive.
Sesshomaru could still not comprehend why the task had been assigned to him. Though he was powerful, he was a child. Moreover, why should he protect the belongings of a stranger? It was not his to look after. His irritation grew stronger when suddenly a light came through his window, blinding him slightly.
He turned his head immediately only to find the familiar white foggy presence staring at him. Her usual wide smile was on her lips as she waved at him, inviting him to join her. He jumped off his bed and walked toward her, only coming to a stop when there was less than a meter of distance between them.
“You came for your jewel?”
She shook her head. “I can no longer protect it, you are aware of that. It is your fate to watch over it.”
“I do not want to.”
An apologetic look overcame her features. “I know. Unfortunately, you’re the only one who can. Your fate is not always the one you hoped for, but the one given to you.”
Gently, she reached out for his face and her glacial fingertips grazed against the skin of his cheeks. “One day, you’ll understand.”
This meeting could not keep happening but she was afraid that without her advice and guidance this would not progress properly. If she could she would come back more often but only when the light of the full moon shun upon her could she appear to this little boy.
The years to come were not going to be easy for him and she intended on being by his side to guide him through the hurdles. She was about to open her mouth to give him a bit more advice when suddenly footsteps were heard. A slight panic rose in her eyes and she retracted her hand straightaway. Before she could be seen she vanished into smoke, leaving little Sesshomaru to almost cough.
“Sesshomaru?”
He turned his head in time to catch a glimpse of his mother slipping into his room.
“Sesshomaru. You should be asleep.” Her tone was cold, which would have cause human to shiver in fear.
“Yes, Mother.”
Sesshomaru could not help but glance upon the window one last time prior to focusing his attention on his bed. He did not even peer in his mother’s direction and instead he slid under his silky sheets. His eyes gaze at the wooden box on his desk, almost wondering if one day the jewel would simply disappear.
It was true that with each of her visit his curiosity for it increased, but never would he inquire about it.
His mother followed his glance and frowned. “What has gotten you so distracted?”
Her son followed the rules, did not argue and had learned respect a long time ago. She marched in direction of his dresser and allowed her fingers to slide against the wood. Her eyes scanned the area, almost expecting to find something, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. She arched an eyebrow intrigued, but pulled herself away nonetheless.
“You will remain in bed until morning,” she said before leaving the room as quickly as she had entered it.
Sesshomaru allowed his eyes to shut yet through closed eyes he could feel a bright light surrounding him. He could not explain this woman’s presence and why he found it acceptable but he did. He could not tolerate many people in his vicinity but her aura was special.
Meanwhile right beside his window, she stood. An angelic smile was upon her lips as her head was slightly tilted. A lot of pain was about to come in to his life and she would not be able to protect him from any of it. The years to come would change him and shape him into a different man.
Centuries would harden that shell he was about to create around himself and she would be unable to destroy it. She couldn’t do it but someone else would. All she could hope for was that when that person would be ready that it wouldn’t be too late to rescue him from himself.
He could do much and he had a lot of potential. The jewel had been the only way to not only bind him to her, but also to protect the world.
“Rest well little one. I’ll be here.”
