---------------------------------------

Morning rose in the sky and golden rays wrapped Kagome in a warmth that had been sorely missing in her dismal nights. It took a few sleepy blinks and a drawn out yawn before the time traveling miko fully realized what was slipping through the cracks in her curtains.

Sunshine!

For three miserable days the rain had held Kagome prisoner with nothing but a living rock for company. The bright light caused new life to burst through her veins and she scrambled to get dressed and out the door.

Her first breath of fresh air seemed to cleanse her soul and she let out a joyful laugh while she slipped out of her sandals. Her toes curled with delight against the cool grass and she took another breath.

Kagome gave only a moment’s thought to her companion, wondering if he found joy in such simple things. She shook her head and pushed all thoughts of Sesshoumaru aside; wanting to forget their complications and simply be free.

She rounded the corner towards the back and gave a gleeful squeal when she found the garden. It was small and unkempt, but all Kagome saw was untapped beauty.

She set to work immediately and began to pull at the weeds; not caring about the mud that was now staining her jeans. She hummed a happy tune all the while and was completely unaware of her silent spectator.

“I did not spend good money on clothes for you to ruin them”

Kagome turned over her shoulder and prepared a biting retort but stopped short when she saw a hint of humor in his gaze. Huffing, she turned back to her work. “It’s just a little mud.”

“That wasn’t a weed.”

Feeling a bit daring, Kagome reached out and placed the daisy behind Sesshoumaru‘s ear.

Perhaps it was all the fresh air that emboldened her or perhaps she had never been sane, but Kagome suddenly felt compelled to do something completely rash.

Not like that was anything new.

Before he could remove the offending plant, Kagome pressed her dirty palms against his crisp, white shirt. She had only a moment to admire her handy work-- and his hard chest-- before she was covered head to toe in mud.

He probably thought she would never notice, but she was sure she saw him tuck the lonely daisy in his shirt pocket as he turned to leave.
