“Hey, Kagome. Can you make me a bag for all of these?”
Shippo emptied his pockets and literally dozens of little round balls dropped on the ground beside her.
She picked one up and saw they were little marbles of various sizes made from clay. Some of the nicer ones were glass and a few looked like they might even be made of precious stones.
“Shippo,” Kagome whispered in awe, “ where did you get all of these?”
She eyed him quickly, “You didn't steal any of these did you?”
“Kagome!,” Shippo pouted, crossing his arms looking hurt, “how could you think I could possibly do such a thing?”
“You're a fox demon.”
Shippo laughed and scratched his head sheepishly.
“Yeah, ok, I see your point but no, I didn't steal any of them.”
“Then how did you acquire such a vast amount of these, trinkets?”
Kagome and Shippo looked up at Sesshomaru.
“I played a game.” Shippo's eyes darted around nervously. He still got a bit uneasy whenever he became the focus of Sesshomaru's attention. New ally or not it just creeped him out.
“What game?”
Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at the kit. No one else might have noticed it but Kagome did. Spending the last several weeks in the same group with him had taught her a few tricks. He was becoming irritated at Shippo's evasiveness.
“Just spit it out Shippo. Don't worry about him,” Kagome at waved Sesshomaru.
Shippo couldn't believe she had just done that! He saw the demon lords attention switch to Kagome and he found he liked that even less then when it was on him.
“It's called, for keeps, and I've been playing it for a while. I do it with village kids.”
Kagome perked up.
“Oh, I know this game! I didn't know it was played here.”
Sesshomaru looked away in the distance.
“I also recall such a game. Does this not require you have one of your own to start with, one in which others would desire to attain?”
“Uhhh, yeah. About that bag...”
Kagome smiled up at Sesshomaru, nodding.
“That's right. I always wanted the biggest ones or the shiny, colorful ones.”
Sesshomaru looked down on her smiling face and looked at her intently.
“I have always sought that which is, unique.”
Kagome flushed. She got the feeling he wasn't talking about marbles anymore.
Shippo coughed and began edging away from them.
“Yeah, so, you can just keep them for now and I'll grab that bag when your done with it.”
“Kit.”
Shippo froze.
“What marble did you use to tempt the village children?”
“It was nothing really. Just something I picked up.”
Kagome knew Shippo was hiding something.
“It had to be something better then anything you could have just got off the ground to have gotten so many! Something really shiny I bet, something.....” Kagome trailed off and realization began to kick in.
Shippo took another step away then broke out in a run.
“Get back here! I can't believe you would use the shikon for a marble!”
Kagome took off after him while Sesshomaru looked on.
“Yes, truly unique.”
